UNITED STATES
The United States is ranked 14th according to the global report from 2014, rising from their ranking of 17th in 2012. According to a study done by education firm Pearson, it is not one of the nine countries that have lost academic ground between 1995 and 2009. However, more countries were improving at a significantly faster rate than the United States. Foreign students are outpacing American peers academically. These findings echo the data gathered from years of ranking tests. Just six percent of students in the United States performed at the advanced level on the international exam administered in 2006. This proportion was lower than those achieved by students in 30 other countries out of the 56 that took the exam. Furthermore, in a test administered in 2012, American students ranked 14th in reading, 17th in science, and 25th in math.
